Fear of Flying

The fear of flying also known as aerophobia or aviophobia is more common than you might think and is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. It is one of the more common phobias that I see.

It is believed that up to 1 in 5 people get anxious about flying. For some people the intensity is so great that they will avoid flying completely, for others they may feel that flying is only possible with the aid of medication or alcohol. The mere thought of going to the airport and boarding an aeroplane can produce anxiety symptoms and sometimes panic attacks which increase as the departure date looms near.

How does hypnotherapy help fear of flying?

The conscious part your mind (the rational part) understands that flying is statistically the safest form of travel in the world, even safer than riding a bicycle. However, the unconscious part of your mind is warning you that it’s dangerous to get on a plane and no amount of rationalisation seems to help. You remain afraid and controlled by your fear of flying.

Fears develop in different ways for different people, very often these fears and anxieties affect some who have been comfortable with flying in the past. Common flying fears may include the weather, turbulence, take offs, landings, flying over water, claustrophobia, crowds, losing control, terrorists, hijackings, fear of falling, fear of heights and fear of having a panic attack. Therefore, some of you are facing more than one fear.

These fears are learned responses; you have learned to be anxious at the thought of flying. I use a variety of Advanced Hypnotherapy methods combined with other therapeutic processes including NLP and Mindfulness, all of which are tried and tested so that you unlearn this habit and associate flying with positive thoughts and enjoy the prospect of your trip. By retraining the unconscious mind, the perceived danger is seen in a more rational way.

The hypnotherapy part of the sessions are recorded and given to you on a cd or mp3 for you to use at home, this repetition has shown to reinforce the therapy and minimise the number of sessions needed. Usually two sessions are needed which last about 90 minutes each.

It’s essential that you feel totally at ease, understand the therapeutic process and that we have a good rapport. Which is why I offer an initial no obligation free consultation lasting up to one hour.
