Pain Management

It is well documented that Hypnotherapy is a very useful tool for the relief and control of pain. Using a combination of Hypnotherapy and NLP techniques for Pain Management you can learn how to change the way that you perceive pain messages so that the intensity is reduced and your emotional responses to pain is changed.

Unrelenting pain, can dominate one’s life affecting every aspect of daily living such as career, finances, activities, relationships, diet, self-image and self-confidence. Life can become very challenging and limited. In addition to chronic pain you may also experience emotional pain – you may fear that you’re life has changed forever and that the pain will not stop. You may experience feelings of hopelessness, anxiety and frustration.

Chronic Pain Management

Acute Pain is necessary for our survival; it’s a signal that tells us there is a problem or injury that needs attention. It also acts as a reminder, when we have an existing injury, to take care and not do anything that could make the injury worse. Chronic pain on the other hand has outlived it’s usefulness as far as survival is concerned; it requires effective management so that life can be lived to the full.

The good news is that most pain will respond to hypnotherapy, whatever the cause, with practice.

However, it is extremely important not to turn off or reduce pain without first identifying the cause. The pain could be a symptom of a serious underlying problem. It is therefore essential to consult with and have a diagnosis from your doctor before making an appointment to treat pain using hypnotherapy.

I see Hypnotherapy as a very useful adjunct to mainstream medicine not as an alternative therapy. I am more than happy to discuss the use of Hypnotherapy in relation to your particular problem with your doctor, physiotherapist, osteopath, chiropractor or nurse.

Hypnotherapy has been successfully used with: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, shingles, low back, shoulder and neck pain, trigeminal neuralgia, headaches including migraine, temporo-mandibular joint disorder (TMJ), myofascial pain syndrome, post operation pain, stump and phantom limb pain, ME / chronic fatigue syndrome, cancer pain, gout, IBS

I’ve undertaken additional hypnotherapy training and have experience in pain management.

My nursing background (I qualified in 1980) brings an underpinning knowledge of medical conditions and expertise in emotionally supporting those who have been affected by trauma and illness.

The hypnotherapy part of the sessions are recorded and given to you on a cd or mp3 for you to use at home, this repetition has shown to reinforce the therapy. I frequently provide additional recordings for you to listen to at home to minimise the number of sessions and maximise effectiveness.

It’s essential that you feel totally at ease, understand the therapeutic process and that we have a good rapport. Which is why I offer an initial no obligation free consultation lasting up to one hour.

The number of sessions will vary as everyone comes with their own, unique set of symptoms and issues and the therapy is tailored to each individual, 4 sessions are about the average, sometimes more.
