About New Leaf’s Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a psychological therapy which uses the state of hypnosis to treat psychological and emotional disorders, unwanted feelings and habits. The aim is to help in finding different and more helpful ways to think, feel and behave which is incredibly empowering.

Hypnotherapy is aimed at communicating with the subconscious mind, the part that stores all your experiences with associated emotions, learned habits, limiting beliefs and behaviours. During hypnosis the subconscious is open and receptive to suggestion.

Working as a team, we work on:
the here and now, your current life and presenting problem
the there and then, using analytical techniques to uncover problems that lie in the past. When discovered and understood the emotional attachment can be released.

on the future, what you want to feel, think and behave; we focus on subconscious relearning using techniques appropriate to you.

It’s a pleasant and enjoyable state, very similar to daydreaming. You’re deeply relaxed and calm, aware of everything happening around you. Some words that have been used to describe the hypnotic experience are: very relaxed, dreamy, numb, heavy, drifting. Usually the physical symptoms that are present during hypnosis are:

  • slowed breathing
  • lower blood pressure
  • slower heart rate
  • less muscular tension.

Yes is the simple answer, if you want to be. The three requirements for hypnosis are: desire, expectation and compliance. So if you want to, expect to and allow it to happen, it will.

Misconceptions and fears about hypnosis can create resistance. That’s why the initial consultation is important so that any concerns or worries about the process can be allayed. Trust and rapport between the client and hypnotherapist is a vital component for success.

Yes, it is similar to meditation or daydreaming. You are aware and in control at every moment and can end the session at any time. Everybody has a protective mechanism of ethics, values, beliefs and identities, which protect them. Therefore you cannot be made to do something that is against your will.

Yes, you are completely in control of your faculties. You’re free to accept or reject suggestions. You really cannot be made to do or say anything against your will, the idea of mind control is a complete myth. Nothing happens unless you allow it to happen.

In a nutshell, hypnosis is a state of mind that’s heightened by relaxation or focus, in this state the conscious mind is able to communicate with the subconscious. This is a wonderful and well recognised method of us unleashing our inner potential and resources.

In most cases, my clients tell me that they start to get some positive results after the first appointment.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) explores the relationships between how we think, how we communicate and our patterns of behaviour and emotion.

It’s a bit of a mouthful, but it makes sense when we break it down a little bit.

Neuro:
Refers to the mind and nervous system, how we think and how we interpret our experiences through our senses of touch, taste, hearing, sight and smell.

Linguistic:
Refers to the language that we use to communicate to others and very importantly, to ourselves because our feelings and behaviours are very much affected by our own internal dialogue.

Programming:
Refers to how our minds and body react to external information and internal thoughts to create patterns of behaviour and emotion. This in turn produces outcomes and results.

In practical terms N.L.P. can be used to create a positive change to our behaviour; it’s the practice of understanding how people organise their thinking, feeling, language and behaviour to produce the results they do.

In therapy N.L.P. partners wonderfully with hypnotherapy because it’s essentially a set of techniques, tools and models which help me to understand my clients better and for them to understand themselves.

N.L.P. helps you to:

  • Understand your own mind
  • Open your mind to possibility and change
  • Understand how you came to think that way
  • Learn how to communicate more effectively with yourself
  • Learn how to manage moods and emotions
  • Correct language that can lead to negative thinking
  • Changing perspectives

What conditions can be helped with NLP?

  • Fears
  • Phobias
  • Anxiety
  • Low self esteem
  • Changing perspectives
  • Low self confidence
  • Stress
