About New Leaf’s Mindfulness Classes
Mindfulness is a proven and effective method of mental training; it allows us to experience the moment rather than being side-tracked by past events, future concerns or worries and our own noisy internal chatter.
Research has consistently shown that mindfulness practice has a powerful influence over health, well-being, mental balance, happiness, work and relationships.
With much research and the use of brain imaging techniques it’s been proven that mental activity can alter the physical structure of our brain. So, by focusing our attention in a certain way (Mindfulness) we can actually change the way that our brains develop.
A mindful mindset is a natural ability that we possess, we just need to learn how to access and cultivate it.
There are numerous studies which have demonstrated the benefits of Mindfulness:
- Decrease anxiety, depression and irritability
- Reduces chronic stress
- Bolsters immune system
- Improves memory
- Increases reaction times
- Increases mental and physical stamina
- Increases happiness and contentment.
- Increased positive emotions
- More fulfilling relationships
The aims of the course is for you to learn:
- What Mindfulness is and isn’t
- How Mindfulness positively affects the physiology of the brain
Develop skills so that you can:
- Manage your thoughts and feelings more effectively
- Become more self aware and less judgemental
- Develop acceptance of yourself and others
- Cultivate compassion and kindness to yourself and others
You’ll learn how to apply mindfulness methods in your day to-day lives to reduce stress, to improve work, have a better time at home and hopefully make this into an ongoing practice that persists long after the course finishes.
Although mindfulness training is often predominantly associated with meditation, there’s a wide range of practical mindfulness exercises in addition to formal meditation practice that are so helpful in breaking unconscious habits of thinking.
This is an experiential course with a logical structure in a warm, welcoming and supportive atmosphere. It includes:
- Weekly workbooks which contain: theoretical background, weekly journal, weekly meditations and exercises. There are also links to videos, research papers, articles and recommended reading if you want to learn more
- Bite-sized guidance to help you to adopt a daily practice that’s really do-able and sticks. So that, no matter how busy you are, you can easily master the concepts and adopt new habits so that they become a way of life.
- Working within a group we can share our insights and questions so that we all learn from and encourage each other.
- I encourage you to really throw yourself into all of the exercises and find out how mindfulness can benefit you in your life. Mindfulness is not a quick fix and takes practice and persistence.
At the moment all classes are carried out via Zoom. You get to benefit from working within a small group from the comfort of your home. We share our insights and questions so that we all learn from and encourage each other.

Although I felt a little shy at first, I soon felt so comfortable, feeling a real sense of belonging.
I'm calmer, more able to control my thoughts and feel so much more contented. At work, I'm far more focussed and I sleep much better. It's strange, over thinking and worry feel quite alien to me now .
This course and also attending the weekly drop-in group has contibuted massively to my mental and emotional well-being. Even now, with the meetings on Zoom, the connection to the group is so strong. Touching base each week helps me to reinforce and improve my practice and there's always lots of chat and laughs."
I've especially enjoyed learning to meditate within a group, it's quite unique. Sharing the groups' experience increases bonding and my own reflection.
I'm now a lot more aware of my thoughts, feelings and responses.; feel more balanced and self aware, which has had an impact on my relationships, learning and work.
Starting from the first session, I've increasingly become more grateful and appreciate little things in life so much more. I'm a much happier person.
Our Monday evening drop in meetings have become an important and integral part of my week. We all help each other to refocus and stay on track."
Ann has encouraged and supported me to practice purposely focusing my attention on the present moment and accepting it, without judgement. Being mindful is something which is actually quite easy to do but in today’s busy world it is easily forgotten. Through practice and patience, anyone can learn and benefit from these techniques. Highly recommended!"
